Dear Participants and Parents,

This started as an idea from Rui Hu over a year ago and culminated last week in what we expect will be the first of many annual tournaments. What a thrill for all of us at Math League to meet all the participants and many of their parents after communicating for months by e-mail with everyone. Special thanks to Rick Sommer and his staff of counselors; the program went as smoothly as one that had been in operation for many years rather than one that was first begun this year. My kudos to all the participants--the mathematical talent displayed at Stanford was remarkable. I wonder how many future Math Olympiad members were present last week?

Next year, we expect to expand the participation in our tournament to include students from Europe. If any of you have any suggestions for our program, please e-mail them to me. While we hope to hold next year’s tournament at Stanford about two weeks earlier than this year, we are also exploring other venues for our program. We welcome your input on this.

Finally, thank you to everyone who participated—without your support, we could not have done this.
